Launch of the Pan London ESF Co-financing Programme

10 May 2004

ECOTEC has been announced as the co-ordinating organisation for the programme management of a new £29.5 million European Social Fund (ESF) programme. The pan-London programme will help people into employment and to re-skill themselves in response to the needs of London’s businesses through a range of advice and training activities.

ECOTEC has been appointed by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to manage the programme until December 2006, building on its existing programme management experience of Equal, Leonardo, Youth Justice Board programmes and the Advantage West Midlands clusters programme.

At the launch event, Jacqui Henderson, LSC Regional Director for London, explained that ECOTEC would be the first point of contact for project promoters as well as being responsible for assessing proposals and providing support during the delivery phase.

Following presentations by Jim Burns of the Government Office for London and Claude Moraes, MEP, John Bell, Director of ECOTEC, told the 350 delegates that ECOTEC would be looking for realistic projects addressing strategic London issues as set out in a series of project specifications in the programme prospectus. He stressed that partnership working across LSC boundaries was likely to be one of the distinctive features of the programme.
